Bay in a Day, January 2010

If anyone has any photos from this trip can you please email them to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it so I can post them up here for people to enjoy.

The day started with some pretty cool and slightly damp weather as the Mokes began arriving at the meeting point near Station Pier and all up i think we had about 11 Mokes and Dave S. in his Sprite. A couple of new faces, and Mokes we hadn't seen before so there was a few things to check out before before we left.

The usual stretch along the Beach Rd was relatively quiet with not much traffic and even less of the pushbike crowd than we have experienced in past years. We stopped to pick up the Pullen's and some other Mokes around Mordy and give Peter G. a chance to catch up as he was about 5 minutes behind. Kinga joined the convoy around Frankston and Hayden M. came in around Mornington so our numbers were growing.

The first stop was at McRae in what turned out to be a good little place to pull up while I had to go check on my 93 year old uncle who wasn't answering his phone. Some minor repairs and checking out Haydens' new Moke, The Hulk, we were told that one Moke was going to have to return home because the young daughter wasn't enjoying the Moke ride. It is times like these I think parents wish they could get a refund on their children, or trade them in on something more Moke friendly.

Because we timed things a bit earlier we only had about 5-10 minutes of the Peak hour jam through Rye and had an easy run to Sorrento where the plan was to lead the Mokes to Portsea while I found somewhere to stop for lunch. Eventually we all found each other and parked together more or less on the other side of the fence to where we take the daily photo shoot each. Unfortunately for Pop he turned up on the otherside of the fence and as I was about 30m away approaching to tell him where we were he drove off and and missed out and catching up with everyone.

We took the back roads up to Arthurs seat, testing our convoy procedures to the limit, and follow dave in his Sprite came across the Red Hill Country &Western festival and Chrome Bumpers Car show. Hayden was last seen putting on a  flannel shirt and yelling Yee Haa as he disappeared inside the gates. A bit more standing around for some unknown reason before we got everyone moving again to go around the corner 50 meters and stop at a servo for people to fill up at! We all managed to make it through hasting and somewhere along the road people split off into smaller groups to make their way home.

Thank you to everyone who came along to be part of Bay in a Day 2010 and i believe the count for the day was 19 Mokes, including Pop, and one Sprite to make it 20 vehicles for the day.
